Pause Envision Evanston 2045 — Demand a Realistic, Data-Driven Plan for Evanston

The current draft calls for sweeping increases in density, “by-right” multifamily in single-family zones, and heavy development incentives—yet no full inventory of vacant units, no detailed housing-supply or fiscal-impact study, and no guarantee affordable homes will result.

On October 20, the Evanston Action Coalition presented documented data showing Evanston’s population has stabilized, family-sized unit vacancies remain, and increased density often correlates with higher property taxes—not lower rents.

We asked City Council to pause adoption, commission a thorough housing and fiscal analysis, and prioritize homeownership, family-sized units, and existing housing rehabilitation instead of speculative luxury development.
