Evanston Action Coalition is a strictly nonpartisan, citizen-led non-profit advocacy organization committed to ensuring that the future of our city is shaped by the informed voices of its residents—not by outside interests, unchecked bureaucracy, or political agendas.

We were founded by residents from diverse backgrounds and neighborhoods across the entirety of Evanston, united by a shared commitment to strengthening civic engagement and restoring balance and accountability in local government. Our coalition includes homeowners, renters, business owners, and advocates with a wide range of professional expertise and community interests.

We believe that a better Evanston requires a government that reflects and responds to the broad spectrum of its citizens—not just a narrow subset. Our vision is one of thoughtful leadership, inclusive public processes, and decision-making that protects the character of our neighborhoods while addressing the needs of all who call Evanston home.

Our work centers on:

• Promoting government transparency and accountability

• Protecting the independence and integrity of citizen-led boards and commissions

• Advocating for responsible, community-informed zoning and planning

• Vetting candidates and appointments to ensure competent, principled civic leadership

Evanston Action Coalition was founded in response to the Envision Evanston 2045 comprehensive planning process and the concerns many residents raised about meaningful public input and representation. While the plan has since been adopted by the City Council, our formation reflects a continuing desire among Evanstonians to reclaim their seat at the table and ensure that implementation decisions remain transparent, accountable, and community-driven.

As Evanston moves from planning to implementation, our focus is on how policies are interpreted, applied, and enforced—and whether those decisions reflect the full diversity of Evanston’s neighborhoods and residents. We aim to elevate community voices, strengthen civic responsibility, and support candidates and policies that prioritize the public good over political ambition or special interests.

Whether you are a longtime Evanstonian or a new member of our community, we welcome your involvement. Together, we can preserve what makes Evanston unique while working constructively toward a more responsive and representative city government.
